The first generation of the SM Pro airbox was a fantastic bit of kit. It introduced never seen before methods of making an enclosed airbox as efficient as is physically possible. The evolution of the SM Pro, the Pro EVO (now named V3 Pro), takes the heat protection from the first generation airbox and applies it to our Gen 2 Airbox design, creating a product that is completely optimised in every possible way regardless of cost. So you can be sure your track or race car is performing at its optimum, regardless of heat and other extreme conditions often seen in a motorsport environment.
 
The design of our V3 Pro airbox is segregated into two factors; the airflow design and the heat management.
 
The heat management of our airbox is what really sets ours apart from the competition, giving you that edge in extreme conditions that could ultimately be the difference between a win and loss. Like the previous generation of pro, we use two technologies to ensure that no ambient heat from the engine bay is getting inside the airbox and causing heat soak.
 
The first being the VHT crinkle black coating. This special coating not only looks fancy, but is effective at protecting against temperatures up to 177 deg. C.
 
The second comes from Funk Motorsport, the UK’s leading automotive heat management specialist. Our tub is lined with Funks gold heat matting (not to be confused with reflective tape). This matting is used on all sorts of motorsport applications to protect components from extreme temperatures from turbos and exhaust manifolds, but the important feature is it works both ways, not just reflecting, but insulating. This means that absolutely no heat is making its way to the air filter and causing heat soak. Less heat soak = more power!
 
The airflow aspect of the V3 Pro is where we see the improvements over the first generation. We have spent many weeks creating a second generation of airbox design, which we refer to as Gen 2.
 
The new design sees improvements to strength and durability, while trying to keep the weight down as much as possible. This is achieved from 3D printing manufacture which is our speciality. This would otherwise be impossible with more traditional methods used with other airboxes on the market.
 
We have also completely redesigned the air filter base to accommodate a much larger 100mm Ramair filter, as well as a mathematically designed Venturi funnel. In short, the Venturi funnel compresses the air once its passed through the filter element, in turn speeding it up again and increasing performance. This technology is used with many high end performance brands such as Eventuri and is proven to be very effective.
 
Although these upgrades over our normal airbox will make very small differences, in a motorsport environment they could be the difference that gives you the edge against the competition.
